Study in Singapore
As a world leader in research and innovation, Singapore stands as a premier education hub with its world class institutions offering international students quality education at an affordable cost. Singapore had earned the third place in the 2013 QS Best Student Cities thus reflecting the country's combination of highly ranked institutions along with a diverse student community and high quality of life. Currently more than 80,000 international students from more than 120 nations are studying in Singapore. They come mostly from India, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar and South Korea.
Presence of World-Class institutions in Singapore broadens the horizon for an international student to get high quality of teaching and exposure. Many institutes in Singapore have partnered with renowned overseas institutions through which they can enhance professionalism and competitiveness of the institutions and universities while balancing the accountability. Private institutes offer external programs through partnerships with overseas universities from various countries such as United States of America, United Kingdom and Australia, in Singapore itself.
The Singapore government has taken pains to ensure that foreign students studying here would be protected too, through Student Protection Scheme. The Fee Protection Scheme (FPS) serves to protect students' fees in the event that a PEI (Private Education Institution) is unable to continue operating due to insolvency, and/or regulatory closure. The FPS also protects students if the PEI fails to pay penalties or return fees to the students arising from judgment made against it by the Singapore courts.
Voluntary EduTrust certification scheme is one of the prerequisites which private education institutions that enrol international students must meet to quality for the issue of Student Passes, as stipulated by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
